A 70 year old British man has died on a golf course in Pilar de la Horadada after developing an allergic reaction to an insect bite.
It happened at 4,15pm on Tuesday night and it’s not known whether the bite came from a wasp or a bee. First indications are that death was almost immediate after he was bitten in an eye.
It happened on the recently opened Lo Romero golf course, close to the Pinar de Campoverde urbanisation in Pilar de la Horadada.
The man, who is yet to be named by the authorities, had died by the time that the emergency services arrived at the scene. An autopsy is being carried out at the Forensic Science Institute in Alicante.
This is the time of the year when wasps and bees start their activity, although the Spanish Allergy Society is predicting that pollen levels for sufferers will be lower this year than last at 3,500 grains of pollen per cubic metre of air.
