A widow has been told by a court in Seville that she will have to honour a cheque her late husband made out to his mistress, one in a series of regular monthly payments he made to her, and the last he made before he died. It is dated in November of 2003 and is made out for 30,000 €, EFE reports.
The man’s widow had cancelled the cheque upon her husband’s death, but now the court has ruled it proved that he and the mistress had a long-term relationship and the money must be paid. The widow escapes payment of two other outstanding cheques for 2,000 and 3,000 €, as they were drawn on the business account and were not authorised by the co-owners of the company, his children.
