A storm this morning affected the province of Málaga, bringing a covering of white hail in some areas, and floods to parts of the coast, especially on the Eastern Costa del Sol.

Several basements and garages were flooded and there were 40 calls to the emergency services, mostly in Málaga city, Fuengirola and Mijas, and then later in Vélez-Málaga and Algarrobo. A row of homes were flooded in La Caleta de Vélez where a stream overflowed, and some 30 cars were trapped on the Paseo Marítimo in nearby Torre del Mar for a time.

The Spanish Meteorological Institute issued an amber alert for the area because of the rains, estimating the falls at 30 litres per square metre.
