The man arrested for killing his partner, 42 year old Lidia Moreno, at the home they shared on Calle Virgen del Pilar in Jijona, Alicante, on Saturday, has been remanded to custody after appearing before the judge investigating the case. He faces charges of murder and failing to comply with a distancing order.

Lidia Moreno was fatally stabbed shortly before 8am on Saturday when the couple arrived home after a night out. Europa Press reports that her partner had been sentenced for domestic violence on two occasions in the past, and was under investigation for a third case. He had only been released from prison at the beginning of January and had another two years to serve on the distancing order. Despite that, it’s understood the couple had been living together following his release from prison.

The local Town Hall has called three days of official mourning.
