Carrera Entertainment, the managers of the Mijas hippodrome, have this Wednesday paid more than 1.1 million € to Hacienda in payment of their debt to the tax authority and have also paid 51,000 € towards back pay owed to staff at the race track. The Town Hall said in a press release on Wednesday that Recursos Turísticos de Mijas, the municipal company which ran the facilities before Carerra Entertainment took over management, has copies of the payments which have been made, and the aim now is to close the solution negotiated with Carrera Entertainment as soon as possible to allow the workforce to be paid the remainder of their back wages.
The next stage, the Town Hall said, will be for Recursos Turísticos to retake control of the installations and re-launch the course as a viable business.
The Town Hall thanked staff at the track for their efforts which have allowed the state racing programme to be met, and added that payment of the tax debt means an embargo in place will now be lifted and races planned for the summer will now be able to go ahead.
