More information has been released in the case of the British married couple in their 50’s who are accused of hitting a 17 year old moped rider in La Nucía, and driving with the youth attached to their vehicle for some two kilometres last Friday evening. The victim died shortly after.

Información newspaper reports that the couple, residents of the La Alberca Urbanisation in Polop, were caught trying to change the registration numbers on their grey Hyundai Matrix when they were arrested by the police. Police had identified the car from closed circuit cameras placed by the local council on a roundabout. They are now trying to establish whether the couple finally got out of their vehicle to somehow ‘unhook’ the youngster after he had been dragged, still alive, a distance of some two kilometres.

The man has been questioned in the Civil Guard barracks in Alicante, and his wife was questioned separately in El Campello. They are both expected to be taken to Benidorm today to make first statements before the judge.

The 17 year old was from Alfaz del Pi, and the local Town Hall has said that they will bring their own prosecution against the couple. The victim’s family is receiving social and psychological support.
