The British couple accused of the death of a 17 year old moped rider in La Nucía last Friday evening were questioned by the investigating judge in Benidorm this Thursday and have both been remanded to custody without bail. The charges at this stage are negligent homicide and failure to offer assistance but, according to information from Europa Press, it is possible that more severe charges could be made as the investigation progresses.

The teenager suffered a horrifying death, after he was hit by a first car when he was driving along the CV-763 road towards Alfàs del Pi on Friday night, and was then dragged along the road for some 2 kms after he was hit by a second vehicle, believed to have been driven by the British couple. He died shortly after local police and a witness found him lying on the road.

Police identified the car driven by the accused thanks to closed circuit cameras placed on a roundabout by the local council in La Nucía. The Información newspaper reports that the couple, residents of La Alberca Urbanisation in Polop, were caught trying to change the registration numbers on their grey Hyundai Matrix when they were arrested by police.

The 17 year old was from Alfaz del Pi, and the local Town Hall have said they will bring their own charges in the case.
