Striking court officers pose half-naked for a fund-raising calendar

As the court officers’ strike continues in seven Spanish regions, where justice employees are demanding salaries equal to their colleagues in regions where responsibility for the judiciary has been devolved, many of the protesters are feeling the effect on their pockets.

There was a fund-raising event in Murcia City on Wednesday, and in the city of Soria, Castilla y León, court officials there have posed half-naked for a calendar which is on sale for 3 €. They hope the funds raised will go some way towards setting off the reduction they have seen in their salaries over the weeks of strike since the beginning of February.

Court proceedings affected by the protest are put at 41,000 by the Justice Ministry, and at 110,000 by the officers. A new round of talks is expected to start on Friday.
