Three million Euro which could belong to the Basque terrorist group ETA has been frozen in bank accounts in Switzerland.
Two separate investigations are now reported to be underway in Switzerland and they come after a bank alert into possible money laundering. Switzerland asked Spain to take over the case in October 2006, given that it relates to Spanish soil, but reports from Swiss news agency ATS indicate that there has been no Spanish response, so the case is suspended and the money remains blocked.

It’s not known whether the money held in Switzerland is linked in anyway to other funds, also allegedly belonging to ETA, which have been frozen in Liechtenstein on the orders of Judge Baltasar Garzón.

Meanwhile an article printed in the Basque newspaper ‘Gara’ in the name of ETA has accused José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero of following the same road as his predecessor, José María Aznar, by forming possible pacts with the PNV Basque Nationalists. The article warns Socialist party activists that ETA will not remain with its arms crossed. The article also claims responsibility for the death of the ex-Socialist councillñor, Isaías Carrasco, who was shot outside his home on the Friday before the General Election, as well as for another four attacks.
