The judge from Motril Penal Court One, Adeline Entrena, who forgot to release a man, José Campoy, from prison after he had been found not guilty, has been ordered to pay compensation to him of 226 € for every day of the 455 days he spent inside. It totals 103,000 € and the Judge will also be suspended from her post for 15 months.
The sentence came from the Andalucian High Court of Justice, TSJA, in Granada, which also ordered the judge to pay the costs of the case. It said that the prisoner, now released, suffered ‘serious and important effects derived from the incomprehension, impotency and desperation to find himself deprived of his freedom despite a not guilty verdict'.

The judge has announced she will appeal against the sentence, describing herself as a pawn in a chess game, while the prisoner has commented he thinks the money he is to be paid in compensation is ‘not enough’. ‘I was forgotten like a dog’, he says.
