Ex Mayor of Totana, Juan Morales, granted 200,000 Euro bail

The ex Mayor of Totana, and regional government deputy, Juan Morales, has been granted bail of 200,000 € by the judge in the Murcia TSJ Penal Court. The charges against him are linked to alleged real estate corruption in the town. His lawyer says that they are now assembling the money with a mortgage and help from family.

The decision came in the early hours of this morning after more than twelve hours of statements to the instructing magistrate, Julián Pérez Templado, who added the condition that the bail money must be paid by 2pm on Monday.

If the ex Mayor finds the money then he will have to hand in his passport and present himself to the court twice a month, as well as communicate any trips out of the country.

Juan Morales is accused of the mis-use of public funds, bribery and perversion of the course of justice in the so-called Totem operation in Totana.
