Clinic fined 6,000 Euro for insisting on nurses skirts

The Pascual company which owns a chain of health centres in Andalucía has been ordered to pay a 6,000 € fine for obliging their female nursing staff to wear skirts.

Work inspectors considered that the company was infringing equality legislation by insisting on the skirts and removing productivity bonus payments of 30 € a month from the nurses who preferred to wear trousers at the San Rafael Clinic in Cádiz and others belonging to the company.

The company issued a statement saying that their uniform, skirt included, was simply part of fashion or taste and could not be considered to offend the workers in any way. They say the work inspectors have been affected by recent media coverage of the case and the ‘sensationalism of the media’.
