Bibiana Aído Almagro – new Spanish Minister for Equality

At the age of just 31, Bibiana Aído Almagro becomes the youngest minister in the recent times of Spanish democracy. Born in Alcalá de los Gazules, in Cádiz in 1977 she joined the Young Socialists of Andalucía at the age of just 16 in 1993, ahead of completing her studies in Business Management at Newcastle University in the U.K.

She is the daughter of Francisco Aído, who was the first democratic Mayor of Alcalá de los Gazules.

She was elected as a regional MP on March 9th this year, having been presented lower down in candidate lists at both local and regional elections in 1999 and 2000, and before that had worked as the Provincial Cultural Delegate for the Junta de Andalucía in Cadíz and also as the Director of the Andalucian Agency for the Development of Flamenco.

which she started in February this year in order to better communicate with her electors, and to debate current affairs with them online. She generally updates the blog daily and confesses herself to be a lover of new technologies.

She now finds herself the youngest Minister ever, and in charge of the new Ministry for Equality where her brief is to promote the progress of women across Spanish society and to fight the scourge of domestic violence.
