Some good news at last for Fernando Alonso, who was in practice on the Montmeló track near Barcelona today, complete with the revamped R28 Renault car which has new aerodynamics, gearbox and suspension. To be accurate Alonso preferred to try the car without the new front tested the previous day by Nelsinho Piquet, but with the new suspension he saw his lap time improve dramatically by about a second and a half keeping him in the morning session just two tenths of a second off the pace of Felipe Massa in the Ferrari.
Too early for the Renault camp to celebrate, but a step in the right direction ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix to be held on the track in 12 days time.
