Fernando Alonso was the fastest in practice at the Montmeló circuit near Barcelona yesterday, in what was a dramatic improvement for Renault following aerodynamic changes to the design of the new R28 car.
In the three days of practice at the track only Felipe Massa had recorded a faster time than that of Alonso yesterday, who clocked a 1:18.483.
The improvement came for the driver from Asturias on slick tyres however, which are banned in races this year.
Second in practice yesterday was Michael Schumacher at just under a second behind.
