A gang which organised marriages of convenience has been broken up by police in Valencia and Tarragona. The false grooms were paid between 2,000 € and 4,000 € to marry a foreign woman so she could obtain legal residence in Spain, and the whole process was run from two offices the group had in Valencia. The women were charged as much as 14,000 € for the marriage.
So far police have arrested ten people in Valencia and three more in Tarragona, who now all face charges of acting against the rights of foreigners and the falsification of documents.
The group carried out high security measures to try and avoid detection by the authorities, using only mobile phones, and by having no papers or bank accounts in their own names.
