A large forest fire on the Canary Island of La Gomera has continuing to threaten the Garajonay National Park.
Six air fire-fighting units have been working without rest to fight the blaze which started on Saturday.
Most of the 300 or so people who were firstly evacuated from their homes in Hermigua have now been allowed back, but there is one remaining active front in the area of La Palmita – at the highest part of the municipal area of Hermigua, close to the Garajonay National Park.
It is estimated that 700 hectares of land have been affected, most of it agricultural and low mountain land.
The President of the Cabildo has called an extraordinary plan to discuss the fire and its effects tomorrow.
