The prosecutor in the case of alleged corruption in Torre Pacheco, José Luis Díaz Manzanera, has called for the Mayor of the town, Daniel García Madrid, to remain in custody on remand, to keep him out of the Town Hall and to stop him committing new crimes favouring the Polaris World company.
La Verdad newspaper also reports that the prosecutor also thinks that there is a risk of flight from the Mayor, or that evidence could be destroyed. He also wants to see the Municipal Technical Architect, Rafael Cabrera, remain in jail, and made his opinions clear at a hearing yesterday behind closed doors in the Provincial Court in Cartagena, presided by the magistrate José Manuel Nicolás.
Full details of what happened in the five hour hearing are not known, but the defence made it clear there was no risk of flight, and claimed that the San Javier instruction court should not have enforced remand in the first place.
A decision is expected later today or tomorrow.
