A row has broken out over the state and upkeep of the so-called Murcia station in Alicante. The state-owned railway infrastructure company ADIF has blamed the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Díaz Alperi, for the deterioration of the building, and have said they will not pay for the repairs needed.
Plans to develop the area around the station have been in place for the past ten years, but nothing has, as yet, been done, and the building has been occupied by squatters for a time. Renovation work is estimated to cost some 45 million €.
ADIF also called for more patrols in the area by local police, but they have paid for private security guards in the meantime.
