In two weeks time the beaches of San Pedro Alcántara in Marbella will become the scene of an improvised recreation of the Normandy landings.

Diario Sur reports that some 300 actors from across the country will be recreating some of the best battle scenes from the history of cinema, and the first will be on the Salida beach in San Pedro. Several boats will arrive on the beach and a group of actors will try to recreate the Normandy landings.

Locals are invited to hire costumes and take part in the action which Marbella town hall says will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Manuel Gutiérrez de la Concha, the Marques of Duero, and the founder of the first farming community which was San Pedro Alcántara. Details of the event are still being finalised, and the event is held on May 17 and 18.
