A new row has erupted in the Spanish Davis Cup tennis team, who are against the ideas of the President of the Spanish Tennis Federation RFET, Pedro Muñoz. He wants the semi-final matches against the United States to be played in Madrid, not least for sponsorship reasons, but the players consider that the high altitude of the Spanish capital will speed up the ball to the extent that their advantage on clay will be removed.
Benidorm, Tenerife and Gijön have also applied to host the semi-final games.
Juan Carlos Ferrero, speaking for the players told TVE in Rome that there is a terrible row. The players wanted to solve it in the best way, he said, but if it can’t be done in that way, it will be done by another.
Details of the row were printed in the sports newspaper Marca.
