Following the publication in Huelva Información, El País and elsewhere on Thursday of details of the court summary and the statement made to the Huevla court by Santiago del Valle, the man accused of the murder of the Huelva five year old, Mari Luz Cortés, the girl’s father has demanded an investigation into the leak.

Juan José Cortés called on the judge in Instruction Court 1 in Huelva, who is handling the case, to ‘investigate the source of the leak of the testimony which is supposed to be secret’. Juan José argues that the release of the statement by Santiago del Valle gives other people who may be guilty to prepare their alibis in the case.

He notes that the leaked statement, made in court on March 27, saw Santiago del Valle claim he acted alone without either his wife Isabel or his sister Rosa. Del Valle claims the child’s death was an accident when she fell down stairs.

The leaked version is different to a statement made by his sister Rosa, who said, without knowing why, she went with her brother and his wife, complete with a supermarket trolly, to a nearby Carrefour hypermarket.

Juan José Cortés is continuing with his journey round Spain to collect signatures for a petition calling for life imprisonment for child killers. He said that one day he and his family would move from Huelva, because getting up in the morning was continuous suffering.
