Electricity prices set to rise in Spain

The Government has confirmed that electricity prices are set to rise, but the Minister for Industry Tourism and Trade, Miguel Sebastián, has said that the domestic power bill increase will be ‘reasonable’. There had been claims in part of the Spanish press that a 20% increase was on the way, with the National Energy Commission, CNE, recommending increases of between 19% and 30%, but the Minister said he did not think that was reasonable.
The CNE contends that such an increase is needed to take the cost of electricity in Spain to the costs of production.
