One person dead and five injured, three of them seriously, after traffic accidents yesterday in Orihuela and Elche. A head-on collision in Orihuela between a van and a car saw the latter completely written off, and its 25 year old driver killed. His 28 year old passenger is in a serious condition in the Torrevieja hospital. It happened at the km17 point of the CV 91 at the Rojales crossroads.
In Elche two pedestrians were hit as they tried to cross the N340, and one of them, a 59 year old woman is now in a very serious condition. It happened just after midnight close to the Renfe bridge some 4kms out of town.
Nationally there were 15 fatalities on Spain’s roads over the weekend. The number is 17 fewer than for the same weekend a year ago, and is interesting as not a single motorbike rider lost their life.
