Walk for Life - Cudeca
By Press release
May 12, 2008 - 12:55 PM
For the third year running, Cindy Jones will be organising a 5 km sponsored walk on Sunday, 18th May 2008 from cómpeta to Canillas de Albaida to raise money for Cudeca Cancer Hospice Care.
Instead of travelling back to the UK to join a “Race for Life” in aid of Cancer Research UK where annually up to 750,000 women participate at one of the numerous venues across various cities and towns across the UK, she decided to arrange a local event and support Cudeca. It is a charitable organisation that provides palliative care to the patients suffering from non-curable advanced cancer within the province of Malaga.
Cudeca is made up of a team of specialist doctors and nurses who provide care and attention to those who need it most with support to the family during treatment and after the loss of their loved one. This care is completely free of charge. Cudeca does not currently receive any form of public funding, instead they entirely depend on initiatives for raising money so as to ensure they can continue to provide the ‘special kind of caring’ to those who need specialist palliative care. You may have read in the last edition (April 2008) of Grapevine; Jean Sampson’s article, “Alan’s story” and how the in-patient department of the Hospice is under threat of closure at the end of the year due to a shortfall in funding.
So come on Ladies, please call Cindy Jones for a sponsorship form on tel: 952 030 215 or e-mail cindyjones19@hotmail.com
• Because nobody knows when cancer may strike them, a relative or a friend.
• Because everybody knows a victim of cancer.
• Because there is an ever growing need for Cudeca’s home-care programme of symptom relief and pain control for the terminally ill.
• Because we need to raise money to continue to run the In-patients Cancer Care Hospice Centre.
