Around 500 people demonstrated outside Jerez de la Frontera Town Hall yesterday in protest at the violent death of the local 66 year old woman who died after having her throat cut by her 77 year old ex partner on Saturday.

The group stood in silence for several minutes in demand that the aggressor be sent to prison for life, and claiming that the death came as no surprise in the case. The demonstrators said that better protection is needed for the female victims of domestic violence.

The son of the victim, José Piñero, told the press that his mother had denounced the threats made against her, and said the aggressor did not comply with a distancing order, and had been walking freely about Jerez for five days before the attack.
