ETA has killed again. The Basque Terrorist Group ETA has set off an explosion against the Guardia Civil barracks in Álava overnight. There is one death, and four injured, two men and two women, all of them Civil Guards.
The explosives were placed in a Citroen Berlingo van which was parked close to the building in Legutiano just after 3am this morning.

The regional police force, La Ertzaintza have since been inspecting a vehicle which they think was used by the terrorists to make their escape. There are no reports of any phone warning ahead of the attack.
Two people were trapped in wreckage after the explosion, one of whom was rescued alive, but the second, a Guardia Civil from Melilla has died. He has been named as 41 year old Juan Manuel Piñuel and was married and had one child.

At the time of the explosion these two people were in a small guard building which is an annexe to the main barracks. First reports say the barracks, which contained some 40 people at the time, has been completely destroyed and a crater several metres wide has been formed in the ground.
The injured Civil Guards have been taken to the Txagorritxu and Santiago hospitals, both in Vitoria.

Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez-Rubalcaba, is on his way to the scene, and is said to be in constant contact with the Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
