The President of Castilla-La Mancha, José María Barreda, has threatened to veto the water transfer from the Júcar valley if the farmers of Villena proceed with their plan to sell water to the Danone company for bottled mineral water.
The información newspaper reports that Barreda formally voiced his opposition to both the farmers and the Ministry for the Environment yesterday.
The water involved would come via the new transfer pipe running between Júcar and Vinalopó, with the deal done with Danone offering the company water which would have been used to water 200 hectares of local crops.
