The Spanish national football team manager, Luis Aragonés, has caused upset if not surprise by, once again, leaving Raúl out of his 23 man squad for the European Cup. The decision is even more dramatic this time round as he was known to be facing a shortage of attacking players after Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic asked to be excused as he said he was exhausted.

Sergio García, Santi Cazorla, Navarro, Palop and De la Red, are the new members of the squad, and it will be the first time that Raúl, the Real Madrid captain misses such a championship.

The European Championships get underway on June 7 and are held this year in Austria and Switzerland. Spain’s first game is against Russia on the 10th at 6pm.
