The new night time electricity tariff will result in more than a million families in Spain paying more for their power, and a compliant has now been placed by the Consumers Union, who claim the changes being proposed by the Government are unconstitutional.

The tarifa noctura is set to end on July 1, which means the 1,100,000 homes currently signed up to it paying between 25% and 80% more for their power. The Consumers Union say they will take the Government to court over the matter if they press ahead with the idea.

Meanwhile we are still waiting to see what general increase in electricity prices will be approved by the Ministry of Industry to be introduced from July 1. An increase of 11% is expected, possibly with cheaper power being available to pensioners and others in need.
