The parents of the Mari Luz Cortés, the five year old from Huelva who was murdered by a paedophile in January, have today visited the Prime Minister in the Moncloa palace in Madrid.

Juan José Cortés and Irene Suárez have collected 500,000 signatures demanding that paedophiles who kill always be sentenced to life imprisonment. The family say they will continue to collect signatures on their petition until it reaches four million, given the overwhelming support their campaign has already received.

Now Juan José says it is time for the Government to keep its word. He says to be responsible there needs to be a full investigation into the current legislation and a study to see how it can be improved.

Mari Luz Cortés was killed the day she disappeared, allegedly by Santiago del Valle, a convicted paedophile who should have been in prison at the time.

After his meeting with the Prime Minister, Juan José Cortés said he was satisfied. Zapatero had guaranteed ‘a serious commitment’ to him.
