The Mayor of Totana, José Martínez Andreo, and his lawyer, José Ángel González Franco, met the press yesterday to put their side of the allegations of corruption in the town in the so-called Totem case.

The Mayor said that the rumour that he predecessor in the post, Juan Morales, had been asking for commissions for building works, ‘was known by half the region’. He claimed that his political adversaries were using privileged information they had obtained from the investigation in the case, or from the prosecutor, against him.

The Mayor complained about leaks in the case which had been published in the local press and said he would be making a formal complaint to the General Council for Judicial Power CGJP.
He said that items which had appeared in the press were ‘categorically false, uncertain and tendentious’.
