Two Spanish tourists were arrested in Gambia last Friday because of their homosexuality. Internet news site ‘The Point’ says that two taxi drivers alerted the police when the two men, named as 56 year old Pere Joan, and 54 year old Juan Monpserratrusau, allegedly made a pass at them.
The Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, last May 15 described homosexuality as a threat to the nation, and ordered all homosexuals to leave the country in 24 hours. He also threatened to ‘cut off the head’ of any homosexual and gave orders for the closure of all hotels and pensions where they may stay.
