The unemployed real estate agent who decided to raffle off his home in Ciempozuelos in Madrid over the internet at 5 € per ticket after finding himself on the dole and unable to sell the property, has been forced to abandon his plan.
Miguel Marina has said he will be returning all the bank transfers he has received so far and has admitted the experience has only served to leave him greater in debt. He’s in talks with his bank to try to get the transfers done for free.
The problem came when the Spanish authorities, in the form of the State National Lotteries and Betting Organisation, told him that she should have previously paid a fee of 15% of the total amount, some 48,000 €. He now is also expecting to be served a fine, but at least, he says that he has pride of having tried to do something original.
