The Iberdrola electricity company has cut the power to 250 residents in Orihuela because of a debt to them by a real estate promoter. Despite being completed some five years ago, the ‘Colinas de la Zenia Élite’ has a 40,000 € debt to the power company dating from last year, and several fines for illegal connections.

Residents, many of them foreigners, are still to see individual power meters installed, and now say they will take the promoter to court.

Phases One and Two of the development were switched off by Iberdrola yesterday, leading local councillor Rosa Martínez to meet with the affected residents. She said that the same real estate promoter, Tecnología Urbanística, had a debt to the power company totalling some 150,000 € along the coast, and that the prospects of payment were not high.
