A man, named with the initials B.H.R. accused of raping his ex girlfriend in Torrevieja and trying to kill her by strangulation in June 2007, has been sentenced to ten years in prison.
The court imposed a nine year term for the rape and another year for the injuries caused to the victim by the attempted strangulation for which the defendant said he was repentant. He was also found not guilty of ongoing domestic abuse because of a lack of evidence.
The man was also ordered to pay his ex girlfriend 18,000 € in compensation and issued with a distancing order valid for 12 years.
