Panic in Alicante cafeteria as man shoots himself

There was panic in an Alicante cafeteria yesterday after a 45 year old Armenian man shot himself in the head in the café in Albufereta.
The man was in a critical condition in a coma in hospital last night.
Before he shot himself the man tried to throw acid over one of the waitresses, Tatiana, a 29 year old Russian woman, at the restaurant, and then injured her by shooting her in the leg. He held the clients and workers hostage for a time before finally turning the gun on himself.
It happened early yesterday morning in the Blanco y Negro heladería on the Camino Colonia Romana.
Police say they think it is was a crime of passion, but the waitress concerned said that she was just friends with the man.
The lawyer representing the man, Pedro Beltrán, said the man had been away from Alicante for some time, after he was the object of a kidnap attempt two years ago in Torrevieja.
