50 of a group of some 60 Sub-Saharan immigrants, who broke over the border into the Spanish enclave of Melilla, have now been detained.
It happened in the early hours of Sunday close to the Beni-Enzar frontier post, with the group then hiding under cars, in rubbish bins, and in the local treetops.
The mass break-in at 4,25am saw the group running together and throwing stones and was the first joint attempt to enter Spanish territory since similar incidents in October 2005.
Several Guardia Civil are reported to have been injured in the avalanche.
And then Sunday evening saw another mass attempt at crossing the border during the Spain-Italy game in Euro 2008. Some twenty people tried to get across but reports indicate that none of them managed to reach the Spanish side, intercepted by the Moroccan authorities on their own side of the border.
