Spanish Armada starts strong at Wimbledon

The Spanish Armada has started strongly in Wimbledon, with all the players winning with the exception of Llagostera, the player from Mallorca who was beaten by Vesnina 6-7, 6-4 and 6-4.
Elsewhere there were wins for Feliciano López, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Albert Montañés, David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco and Vivi Ruano.

Feliciano beat the Argentinain Brian Dabul by 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3 y 6-4 and now meets the Croat Roko Karanusic in the second round.

Juan Carlos Ferrero beat Sam Querrey from the United States in four sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4 and goes on to meet the German player Mischa Zverev, who today put out the Austrian Alexander Peya.

The third of the Spanish men to make it into the second round was
Albert Montañés, who beat the Argentinean Carlos Berlocq by 6-3, 7-6 (2) and 6-4 in an hour and 18 minutes and who now has to face Leyton Hewitt.

David Ferrer, fifth seed at the championships, is also through after the Ukrainian Sergi Stakhovsky retired with the score 7-6 (6), 6-3 and 1-3 in favour of the Spaniard. The player from Alicante now meets the winner of the match between the Russian Igor Andreev and the Check Jiri Vankek.

Fernando Verdasco will meet the Belgium player Olivier Rochus in the second round after a 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2 win over the German Philipp Kohlschreiber.

In the women, Virginia Ruano, beat the Venezuela player Milagros Sequera por 6-1 and 6-4 and now meets the winner between the French lady Amelie Mauresmo and the United States player Ashley Harkleroad.
