A summer without power for 420 Costa Blanca homes

Two urbanisations in San Miguel de Salinas and Orihuela Costa, with more than 420 homes in total, will have to spend the summer with power supplied by generators after Iberdrola has carried out cuts in supply to the homes because of outstanding debts amounting to 120,000 € from the companies responsible for the construction of the homes. Diesel generators were installed at both sites by the Ayuntamiento last Friday.

The power has now been removed from the El Galán and the La Zenia Colina Élite urbanisations which have, upto now, been supplied with power from a builders connection.

The homes in both cases do not have first accommodation licences and also face other legal problems over other irregularities. For example those in the El Galán have had no legal water supply for the past four years. Local wells are contaminated by nitrates and human use has been banned by the local Town Hall.
