He and his wife had two bars where he allegedly sold some of the drugs and also laundered money raised by the scheme.
Among those arrested in the ‘Operación Rosales’ are baggage handlers and other airport workers who collected drugs which were sent from Latin America, generally Venezuela and Colombia via the airport.
Nine Colombians who had entered Spain illegally were also arrested as part of the operation, with the judge ordering prison on remand for 26 of those arrested and granting bail to the remaining 12.
Meanwhile a new study carried out by the National Anti Drugs Plan has shown that 20% of youngsters aged between 14 and 18 say that they have smoked cannabis at least once over the past month.
It means that nearly 50,000 children in that age group could generate a dependency on the drug and consequent health problems. The new survey also shows a reduction in the numbers of tobacco smokers, and also falls in alcohol and heroin abuse.
